2023 Easter Reflection Booklet

“As we celebrate Easter, we celebrate our Father being faithful to His Word. The Word, Jesus, came into our midst, lived our lives and brought us salvation.”

For this Easter season, let us come together to share His Word and live in His presence. May the Word of God allow us to share it with one another, and be filled with Easter gladness.

This resource is intended for families, RCIA groups, parish organisations and ministries, small Christian communities and neighbourhood Christian communities. It may also be used for individual reflection.

To promote the Christian community in the neighbourhood as a place where we can hear the word of God and put it into practice.
To give participants an experience of community and a sense of their mission by reaching out to neighbours and those in need.
To gather parish organisations/ministries to pray together as one and put Christ back in the centre.
To increase communication between family members. Love should be the main message in all communication, so the sessions are aimed at families sharing stories, doing meaningful activities together, sharing faith, and being reconciled with each other.

“As we embark on our Lenten journey, let the Word of God convict you of the change that needs to take place in your life. Let that change come from the love you have for the Lord.”

For this Lenten season, we invite you to prepare your hearts and minds for the Word to be sown.

To promote the Christian community in the neighbourhood as a place where we can hear the word of God and put it into practice.
To give participants an experience of community and a sense of their mission by reaching out to neighbours and those in need.
To gather parish organisations/ministries to pray together as one and put Christ back in the centre.
To increase communication between family members. Love should be the main message in all communication, so the sessions are aimed at families sharing stories, doing meaningful activities together, sharing faith, and being reconciled with each other.

“Once again, we are presented with an opportunity to gather with family and friends preparing to receive the wonderful “Gift” of our Father.“

To promote the Christian community in the neighbourhood as a place where we can hear the word of God and put it into practice.
To give participants an experience of community and a sense of their mission by reaching out to neighbours and those in need.
To gather parish organisations/ministries to pray together as one and put Christ back in the centre.
To increase communication between family members. Love should be the main message in all communication, so the sessions are aimed at families sharing stories, doing meaningful activities together, sharing faith, and being reconciled with each other.

These reflections may be used either:

Before participating in Sunday’s liturgy, to prepare to receive God’s Word at Mass
After participating in the liturgy as a continuation of ‘breaking open the Word of God’ in our lives.

Since the start of the pandemic, our daily lives have been filled with extreme changes that have affected all our parish communities. As parish leaders, many of us have been straining to respond and reconcile the new realities using maps for a world that no longer exists. As the uncertainties prolong, what if the way ahead is to set aside confidence in our current parish playbooks and adapt ourselves to new ones in order to stay faithful to our mission and the communities we serve?

The Pastoral Conversion of the Parish Community in the Service of the Evangelising Mission of the Church

Pastoral conversion is one of the central themes in the “new phase of evangelisation” that the Church is called to foster today, whereby Christian communities be ever more centres conducive to an encounter with Christ.

We must make a determined missionary decision “capable of transforming everything, so that the Church’s customs, ways of doing things, times and schedules, language and structures can be suitably channelled for the evangelisation of today’s world rather than for her self-preservation”.

This means a pastoral activity that, through an effective and vibrant collaboration between priests, deacons, religious and laity, as well as among different Parish communities of an area or region, occupies itself with identifying together the questions, difficulties and challenges germane to evangelisation, seeking to integrate ways, methods, proposals and means suitable to confront them. Beyond a responsible coordination of activities and structures capable of relating and collaborating among them, the pastoral care of all requires the contribution of all the baptised.
